Violin lessons for kidsViolin lessons for children in Kraków
I teach children the violin from their very first note: patiently, one to one, and at their own pace. I graduated from the Academy of Music in Kraków, have played the violin for over 20 years and have taught more than 2,500 hours of lessons. Lessons are in English or Polish.

What age can a child start the violin?
My youngest students start at around age 4. There is no single right moment to begin. What matters more than age is whether your child enjoys music and is curious about the instrument. I fit the programme to the child, not the other way round.
Ages 4–6
Playing with sound
Small 1/16 or 1/8 violins. We learn to hold the violin and bow and practise rhythm and listening through play. Reading music comes in gradually, once the child is ready.
Ages 7–9
Reading music and first pieces
More fluent reading, bow technique and work on clean intonation. The repertoire grows with the child's skills, and the first student concerts build confidence.
Ages 10+
Technique and the stage
Vibrato, position changes, interpretation and deliberate work on tone. Preparation for concerts, auditions and music school entrance exams.

What does the first lesson look like?
The first lesson is a relaxed meeting where your child gets to know the violin. They touch the instrument, try holding the bow and play their first sounds. There is no pressure and no testing. The aim is to spark curiosity and the joy of playing.
Meanwhile I watch how your child responds to music and use that to set the pace for the lessons that follow. Parents are welcome to stay, which especially helps younger children. We also find the right violin size during the first lesson.
Should you buy or rent a violin for your child?
You don't need to buy an instrument to start. Violins come in sizes from 1/16 up to full-size 4/4, and children grow out of them, so I recommend renting from a music school or music shop at first.
The right size depends on the length of your child's arm, so it is best chosen together at a lesson rather than guessed in a shop. I can also point you to trusted places in Kraków to rent or buy a good instrument.
Practice at home and the parent's role
For most children one lesson a week works best. Regularity is what matters: consistent lessons build good habits and skills step by step.
Between lessons, daily playing at home makes the difference. For the youngest, 10–15 minutes a day is enough, and the time grows as they progress. I give parents practical guidance on supporting home practice so it stays a pleasure rather than a chore.
Private lessons or music school?
Private lessons are fully flexible. The programme is built around your child, with no rigid timetable or exams, and the pace follows their abilities and interests. Polish music schools also teach ear training and theory, which is valuable but takes considerably more time.
The two paths can go together. Many of my students combine private lessons with music school, or start with me and move on to music school later with a solid foundation.
| Private lessons | Music school | |
|---|---|---|
| Curriculum | Tailored to the child | Fixed programme |
| Schedule | Flexible | Set timetable |
| Pace | Individual | Group pace |
| Language | English or Polish | Usually Polish only |
| Exams | None | Required |
| Music theory | Built into lessons | Separate classes |
Concerts, the Little Army of Janosik and lessons in English
I organise concerts and recitals for my students, because playing for an audience builds confidence and teaches children to handle nerves. Many of my students also play in the Mała Armia Janosika (Little Army of Janosik) ensemble, where they gain stage experience and learn to play in a group.
I come from the Podhale highlands and combine the classical precision of the Academy with a highlander's temperament. Because I teach in English as well as Polish, many international families living in Kraków come to me. If your child is bilingual, we can mix both languages freely.
